The Challenge

Rizer AI needed a Shopify app that surfaced AI-driven product recommendations without adding storefront latency. The core technical tension of recommendation apps is that the computation happens server-side but the result must appear on-page without slowing down the merchant's storefront — because any measurable latency creates a worse outcome than having no recommendations at all. Beyond performance, the Shopify app review process enforces strict requirements around data handling, App Bridge implementation, and theme compatibility that can delay launch by weeks if not anticipated early in development.

Our Solution

We built a Shopify app with App Bridge, edge-cached recommendations, and a merchant-friendly configuration UI. The recommendation engine was integrated with edge caching so recommendation results were served with near-zero latency on the storefront — the heavy computation happened asynchronously based on purchase and browse events, and results were pre-cached at the edge for fast delivery. The merchant configuration UI was built with App Bridge 3 following Shopify's Polaris design system to pass review standards. Theme app extensions were used for storefront embedding, eliminating the need for merchants to manually add code to their themes.
